Veteran radio reporter gears up for election coverage

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. — Even seasoned journalist David Sommerstein has never seen anything quite like this election campaign.

It’s “unparalleled in many ways,” said the assistant news director and reporter at upstate New York’s North Country Public Radio.

Sommerstein, who covered the tumultuous 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore, said the rhetoric and sometimes-profane banter between the candidates this time around has been nothing short of “alarming.”
