BIOGRAPHY

Ruth Abernethy, born in Lindsay, Ontario. Establishing herself as a young artist at the prime age of 21, after attending Malaspina College for performing arts. She launched her solo career and was offered studio sessions with artist Anthony Quinn, with whom she created her first commission piece, Glen 1999.

  OSCAR PETERSON SCULPTURE

Oscar Peterson, a well-known Canadian piano jazz artist.  In commemoration of his amazing impact on the world, artist Ruth Abernethy created a commemorative statue in the heart of the country, at Canada’s National Art Centre. 

The statue was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh on June 30, 2010. This statue plays jazz music, symbolizing Oscar’s extraordinary contribution to musical history. The open space on the bench is meant to represent a welcoming and friendly, almost as if people should sit next to him.
