A natural curiosity and a love for speaking with others inspired Hayley to pursue a career in journalism. She is currently in the graduating semester of the Masters of Journalism program at Carleton University in Ottawa.

Mental health has always been an important part of Hayley’s upbringing.  Her father suffers from major depression and it has taken her years to fully accept and understand his illness.

While Electroconvulsive Therapy hasn’t always been successful for her father, it has done wonders to improve his quality of life for periods at a time.  She is hopeful that impending guidelines will make ECT in Canada safer, more effective and more accessible.  She hopes her project will serve as important resource for those exploring ECT as a treatment option.

Hayley owes a huge debt of gratitude to Dr. Nick Delva, Dr. Kiran Rabheru, Jen Morgan, Dr. Lisa McMurray, Dr. Caroline Gosselin, Zeno and Tommy Jaworski and Marie and Jim Howell for their continued support and encouragement over the past year.  She would like to thank her parents for having the strength and courage to share their story.  She would also like to extend her thanks to Randy Boswell and Roger Martin for their advice and guidance.

Last but certainly not least, she would like to thank her boyfriend Richard Clark, who always believed in her even when she didn’t believe in herself.
