Devon Platana
When Devon left Carleton’s journalism program after the first year of the undergraduate program, he knew he had to shape his skills before returning. Graduating with a BA in Music in 2017, Devon enrolled in Carleton’s Master’s of Journalism program in hopes of one day becoming a sports broadcaster and writer (while eating pasta along the way).

Georgia Andromidas
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Georgia is a true prairie girl at heart. She has her Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in psychology and sociology from the University of Manitoba. You can find her cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Winnipeg Jets, reading any book she can get her hands on, and religiously following her favourite fashion bloggers.

Sara Ann Wicks
Sara is a 2018 graduate from Jacksonville University with a degree in communications with a specialization in PR, ad, and broadcast journalism. While at JU, she played division I soccer, and is continuing her athletic career at Carleton as the goalie for the varsity women’s soccer team. She has studied in three countries thus far; US, Italy, and Canada.

Gerlie Ormelet
Gerlie graduated from the University of Montreal with a bachelor’s degree in communications. Her passion for food security and social justice led her to volunteer in multiple food banks where she conducted her own community cooking groups. She is now completing her master’s of journalism at Carleton University.

Maan Alhmidi
Beside his interest in politics and public affairs, Maan wrote many articles about social issues. His passion in writing is what drove him to start his master’s degree in Journalism at Carleton University. He was studying toward a master’s degree in Commercial Law after he got his BA in Law from the University of Aleppo in Syria. Maan also received a diploma in Media and Communication Studies form Algonquin College.

Menaka Raman- Wilms
Menaka Raman-Wilms writes about politics, business, and social issues. She has a B.A. in English and political science, as well as an M.A. in English and creative writing. A book reviewer with the Ottawa Review of Books, she’s also had her own stories published in Broken Pencil and Room Magazine.

Michael Smith
Michael originates from “the Rock” where he completed his BA in Philosophy and Anthropology from Memorial University. His passion for storytelling and uncovering hidden truths has led him to pursue a master in journalism from Carleton University. When Michael isn’t out hiking or playing basketball, he can be found searching for stories on the internet while eating cashews.

Dexter McMillan
Dexter was born and bred on the west coast of Canada. He holds a Bachelor’s degree majoring in psychology from the University of British Columbia. He’s currently attending Carleton University doing a Master of Journalism, and brings a background in health and education and a love for photography and the outdoors to Food for Ott. Dexter is experiencing his first Ottawa winter. He bites his ice cream.
