Our first official show of the new season successfully (but just barely) went to air with stories about other sorts of beginnings and cheering…but endings, too, and struggles and loneliness.<\/p>\n

Our reporters gathered a roundup of how neighbourhoods around Ottawa were hit by sudden tornadoes just days before, and also about the slow-motion destruction of the Heron Gate community where hundreds of tenants have had to move out to make way for development.<\/p>\n

Yellowing, unread newspapers sit on the doorstep of what was once a home in Heron Gate<\/p><\/div>\n

We heard about new directions in craft beer, the shadowy pastime of “urban exploration,” and the role the cheer team plays in scoring wins in university sports.<\/p>\n

Our reporters took us to the Army Run, the Ottawa International Animation Festival, and a pro-sex ed high school protest, and brought us a serious look at why comedy should be officially declared an art form by the government.<\/p>\n

The team race to finish preparing the scripts for the show…which is already on air!<\/p><\/div>\n

Other stories probed into eating disorders, deaths in Ontario’s youth group homes, what indigenous eyes can help us see in urban nature, and how geek culture can be a safe haven for some who have trouble fitting in…but not for others.<\/p>\n

It was a scramble in the newsroom in the final moments, but none of that chaos showed on air as hosts\u00a0Raisa Patel and Adam van der Zwan kept their cool in front of mics…and hoped the scripts for the second half of the show would reach them in time…<\/p>\n
