Midweek is always a mixed bag…but we don’t often have an actual superhero in the lineup. This week, though, meet a caped crusader for cycle safety: Se\u00f1ora Bicicletta.<\/p>\n

Midweek’s Adam van der Zwan took to the streets with her as she handed out lollipops to motorists, encouraging them to think kindly of their two-wheeled fellow-users of the roads.<\/p>\n

That was at the very end of our show, though — and the journey there was an excursion, with our hosts Madeline Lines and Kiera Kowalski as tour guides:<\/p>\n

We checked on progress in areas hit by the region’s recent tornadoes, then swung by the annual Panda Game where the Ottawa U football Gee-Gees won back the bear over Carleton’s Ravens for the first time since 2013.<\/p>\n

We dropped by at Kilmorie House, built in 1848, to check on the fight by the local community association to save it from development, and then learned how Canada’s rating among nations for freedom of information has travelled…downwards. A lot.<\/p>\n

Then back on our bike again: We hit the Etsy fall market to find out about\u00a0 crafty locals, met some wannabe Mean Girls, shook our heads sadly over the coming hockey season, and heard how North America’s new non-Nafta trade agreement is a disappointment for Indigenous peoples — though some still hold out some hope for more inclusion.<\/p>\n

Then it was on to weed stocks (the kinds you invest in with a broker, that is), midwifery, vegan pastries, and colourful efforts along Bank Street to make businesses more accessible with STOPGAP ramps.<\/p>\n

The thrashing, clashing and crashing of a drum clinic at House of Targ was hard to miss, but then we heard about folks the world has long found easy to overlook: women who’ve worked in animation since the art began, but have received little notice or credit.<\/p>\n

And yes, then it was finally time to meet\u00a0Se\u00f1ora Bicicletta, who wasn’t going to let anyone<\/em> overlook her!<\/p>\n
