Today the Midweek newsroom opened up for the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students met at 10 a.m. for their meeting and then had an hour and a half to find and produce their stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the dry run, we included stories that students created for the last two weeks of class, as well as a few same-day stories. These included covering the protest at Parliament Hill, performing streeters on campus about the spiking grocery prices in Ottawa; local sports updates, and the Ottawa International Animation Festival. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some students went out to find their sources, and others stayed on campus to perform phone interviews, and to talk to faculty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since we had to iron out some kinks, we ended up going live a half-hour later than planned, at 1:30p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we approached crunch time, we realized that we were 27 minutes short of content, prompting us to use the students’ Q&A clips, as well as their docs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hosts of the show, Ally Lemieux-Fanset and Rafka Abou-Khalil then headed to the booth. The team set them up with scripts, and we hit the ground running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the show was a success. We filled the airwaves with great audio journalism, which is all you can ask for for a dry run. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
