ACORN and allies call for more affordable housing for all<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWho are we? ACORN! What do we want? Affordable housing! When do we want it? Now!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

These chants were heard Friday as about 50 people gathered at Marion Dewar Plaza outside Ottawa\u2019s city hall to demand affordable housing and fair landlord regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The rally was led by ACORN, a national organization that advocates for social and economic justice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m seeing throughout Ottawa and the world, that affordable housing has become less available,\u201d said ACORN member Blaine Cameron. \u201cWe need better protections and to reinstate funding.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

ACORN is pushing city council to set aside $15 million annually for affordable housing. On Friday Mayor Jim Watson took to Twitter to say that money would be invested in housing and homelessness.<\/span><\/p>\n
