The Impact Team

The Impact is a student-run online publication related to sports and wellness in Ottawa. Editors and reporters are in their first year of the Master of Journalism program at Carleton University.

Ethan Cabel | Editor-in-Chief, Reporter

Ethan

Ethan Cabel comes to us from Winnipeg, Man., where he studied political science at the University of Winnipeg and worked as news editor of the Uniter, the university’s weekly newspaper. His all-time favourite sport is hockey.

 

Paige Parsons | Production Editor, Reporter

Paige

Paige Parsons hails from Lacombe, Alberta. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and got her first taste of sports reporting while covering the Women’s World Fastpitch Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon in 2012. Roller derby and ringette both hold a special place in her heart.

Beatrice

Originally from Victoria, B.C., Beatrice “Bea” Britneff studied political science at McGill University, where she worked as news editor for the McGill Tribune and associate news producer for TVM: Student Television at McGill. She loves dance and hockey.

Philippe de Montigny | Reporter, Web Design, Production Editor

Philippe

Proud Franco-Albertan, Philippe de Montigny studied economics at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where he volunteered for the Gateway and worked for two French newspapers, Le Franco and Le Chinook. His favourite sport is Quidditch.

Originally from Montréal, Emanuela Campanella studied philosophy and communication at the University of Ottawa. She wrote on youth employment for the International Labour Organization of the United Nations. Her favourite sport is soccer.

Originally from Shanghai, China, Fangliang Xu (AKA Choux) studied journalism at Soochow University. She worked as a television reporter and editor at International Channel Shanghai. Her favourite sport is ping-pong.

Originally from Ottawa, Ariana Armstrong studied development at Carleton University. Interested in photojournalism, she will be working as an intern with Muse magazine in April. She enjoys running and taking long strolls in nature, armed with her camera.

KiranKiran Rana, originally from Toronto, studied global development at Queen’s University, where she was a reporter for QTV News and a staff writer for the Queen’s Journal. She loves windsurfing and used to swim competitively.
