Poised for action: Producer Noah Richardson (right) leans in as operator Dave Sarazin readies sound files, hosts Kaitlin Fisher and Naomi Librach wait for their cue, and reporter Mona Mahmoud says “hi” from the booth next door.

It may be the middle of winter, but a new season is just starting here at Midweek: A new crew of journalists have taken over the show, and had their first practice run at the helm on January 24, 2018, with hosts Naomi Librach and Kaitlin Fisher at the mics.

These “dry run” shows are often just…great…learning experiences — ones where everything goes wrong that can go wrong, and the team gets to practise digging itself out of a whole.

Well, for better or for worse, this group’s first effort was a darned good radio show in its own right — so we’ve decided to share it with you!

Stories took us to the steps of Parliament Hill where we joined the determined crowd at Ottawa’s second Women’s March on Jan. 20, and also to church on a recent Sunday to appreciate the fine accoustics at Dominion-Chalmers United Church in downtown Ottawa — and hear about that wonderful space’s prospective future.

Other reports examined sexual assault stereotypes, and what’s important about The Black Panther superhero movie that’s just out.

We met Dom Oliveri, the new coach of Carleton University’s women’s soccer team, and Kylie Delfino, whose near-death experience three years ago led her into a career teaching meditation amid the resonant moans produced by special crystal bowls.

We also heard about home renovation tips, how Bluesfest is taking shape, a giant therapy dog named Blue, and National Compliment Day.

(By the way, that colour you’re wearing goes really nicely with your eyes.)

All that and more on Midweek — it’s great to be back!

Our shows will now continue on CKCU-FM every Wednesday through until March 28 — except for Feb. 21, which is the break week at Carleton University, where we’re based.

Look for us right after the BBC News at noon.
