Another round of podcasting for the Midweek crew!

Podcast One, hosted by Salma Mahgoub and Shalu Mehta, starts off with a visit to Carleton University’s front lines where strikers were visited by NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. Following this, talk of struggle broadens to the national human rights scene: A New Brunswick lawyer chats with us about his ideas for a new Indigenous rights implementation strategy.

DriveHer, a new company in Toronto, has emerged in competition with Uber to provide a better experience for women, many of whom have reported inappropriate behaviour from hired drivers as of late. Midweek’s Kaitlin Fisher got feedback from Carleton students about their experiences with Uber.

If you drive a Harley Davidson and are seeking a spiritual place, look no further than Vanier. Biker’s Church is open year-round and provides a safe space for bikers at every stage of their spiritual journey. Emily Fearon brings us more.

Speaking of human rights and lifting the spirit, there’s a boutique in Ottawa’s ByWard Market that’s trying to strike a balance between being fair-tradingly eco-friendly but also affordable. Midweek’s Mamta Manhas takes us down to Adorit to meet its owner.

This first podcast wraps up with two pieces on life’s two most essential elements: one discusses the importance of happiness and where our notions of it have stemmed from, and the other is about…coffee!

Kristine Vezarov discusses coffee culture in Ottawa and how entrepreneurs can gain enough traction to get into the national coffee championships, held right here in the capital.

Brought to us by hosts Emily Fearon and Shauna McGinn, our second podcast gets into some unusual topics, including reports of attempted cult recruitment in Ottawa, changes being made to the “no fly list” by our southern neighbour, and how the Facebook privacy breach is affecting the social media site’s users.

Bob Abumeeiz, Owner of Arcata Pizzeria in Windsor, Ont., rolls out the dough…

We also join a fascinating “convertsation” going on as part of Islam Awareness Week at Carleton University as Midweek’s Naomi Librach introduces us to folks who came to the faith by choice, rather than being born into it.

Midweek’s Katrina McNabb takes us out to a local flea market — 613Flea — to meet the folks for whom knickknacks and oddities are more than just a business. “Something for everyone” is a bit of a cliché, but in this case it just might be true!

…and spreads the sauce…

…and tops it all off…

Ever one to have a nose for a good story, Midweek’s Lauren Sproule finds out what aromas mean the most to those around us. Once again, coffee elbows its way towards the front of the line.

And speaking of irresistible aromas, pizza definitely belongs on the list. Midweek’s Shalu Mehta takes listeners backstage at Arcata Pizzeria in Windsor, Ont., to see why they get requests for delivery even to…Saskatchewan. (Now that would call for a tip, we’d say…)

So grab your cup of joe, a slice of (pizza) pie, and click PLAY on your favourite mid-week show…er…shows…er…podcasts..

The final masterpiece…! (Pizza photos by Shalu Mehta)
