Chase producer Raisa Patel keeps track of assignments

Welcome to our third installment of Midweek — or as we called it this week, The Edwards Show, hosted coincidentally by two folks named Edwards: Jensen and Danielle…!

This episode was produced by Jordana Colomby and Raisa Patel with music selection by Madeline Lines. On the editing team were Alex Kurial, Meg Sutton and Adam van der Zwan.

We opened this week with the debate on public art sparked by complaints about a new mural on a home in Hintonburg, We then heard about a new pop-up Indigenous shop that opened up in Carlingwood Mall and plans to stay open until the end of the holiday season.

Hunza Chaudhary found out what exactly it is they’re selling. We also sat with members of the Kitigan Zibi First Nation who celebrate Algonquin Summer during the long weekend over in Gatineau Park.

Reporter Corey Price came in to brief us on what the Ottawa environmental community is doing to tackle climate change in light of the latest very dire international experts’ report, and we heard disturbing news about an outbreak of chronic wasting disease in local deer.

This week is Citizenship Week in Canada. Reporter Reina Cowan went out on the street to ask locals what it means to be a Canadian. And if you are also looking for a quick local history lesson, reporter Molly Pendergast learned how Laurence Zooper is using Instagram to document the stories of historic buildings in the city’s centre.

It’s been almost three weeks since the tornado hit Ottawa-Gatineau last month. Midweek’s Sam Berube attended the food drive aimed at supporting the residents affected by the disaster and checked in on other recovery efforts.

Meanwhile, firefighters know small domestic disasters can be devastating, too, and are trying to raise awareness on the triggers that can cause kitchen fires in the home. Midweek’s Liam Leonard shared their tips on how to keep your house safe.

Finally, just a friendly reminder to vote in the municipal elections taking place on October 22. Reporter Kiera Kowalski found that only 13 percent of voters made it out to the polls during the last muncipal election, and spoke to Gloucester-Southgate candidate Sam Soucy about how politicians can mobilize voters to get up and go cast a ballot.

And to end the show, Midweek’s Laura Atherton introduced us to Fay Slift and Fluffy Soufflé, a pair of drag storytellers teaching kids about consent, gender identity and acceptance.

All these stories and much more on Midweek!
