Wafa El-Rayes loves this stuff…

Our Midweek show is a program aired on CKCU-FM in Ottawa on Wednesdays starting at about 12:06 p.m., right after the BBC News at noon — but it’s also a senior course for both bachelor and master of journalism students at the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University.

That means our team are at the mercy of the stressful split-second demands of live broadcasting — and the more stately ebbs and flows of the academic school year.

We love the challenge and the adrenalin rush of reporting and getting our 90-minute shows on air — and we’re often doing those two things at the same time, finishing stories for the show well after we’ve gone on air, confident (kinda, sorta, with fingers crossed) that we’ll be able to finish them by their time slot in our show’s lineup.

We love it … but it can be a exhausting, with our workday starting at 8:30 a.m. and going flat-out until 1:30 p.m. before we can take our first break once the show’s done.

… as does Lilian Fridfinnson, though she’s ready for a break. Reeeeeally ready…

That’s why when the university’s Fall Break rolls around, we’re not tooooo disappointed we have to take a week off from doing our live show. It’s time to catch up on school work, catch up on longer term stories, and catch up on sleeping in.

But a Wednesday without Midweek would be like a day without orange juice — or sunshine? — and so audio technologist David Sarazin put together a compilation of stories from shows earlier this season.

It aired on CKCU-FM at our regular time on Wednesday, October 26, but if you missed that, here it is down below!

We won’t tell you what’s in it — so just dive in and see what you discover!
