Our usual live Wednesday shows have been replaced with podcasts during the pandemic, but the great news is that we’re also back on CKCU-FM: Thursday mornings, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. as part of the station’s Special Blend morning shows. That weekly almost-one-hour show will be a compilation of the three weekly podcasts.
We’re back with another edition of Midweek, which means three more podcasts for you! This week, Midweek’s reporters looked into pandemic puppies, new twists on Halloween celebrations, the journey of one woman who left her childhood home on her sixteenth birthday, and so much more.
This week from the virtual Midweek newsroom, we once again bring you three new podcasts about adventures to raise awareness about the environment, a 16-year-old professional soccer player, the painful struggle to get answers and justice for victims of the January airline crash in Iran, the continuing realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, and so much more.
A whole new Midweek team is now finding a whole new way to bring you our usual mix of great audio journalism — even though they’re strung out in homes from Timmins, Ont., to Dubai, U.A.E! Each reporter produces their own story wherever they are, and each week’s producers work as a team online to piece their podcasts together into a finished mini-show. Here are our first of the new season!
We at Midweek are delighted and proud to announce that Meaghan Brackenbury, a member of our team for the Fall 2019 season, has just been awarded two — count ’em: TWO — prestigious scholarships by the Radio Television Digital News Foundation, an arm of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) of Canada.
Despite the sense of a gathering storm as Ottawa reported its first case of COVID-19, Midweek made a point of also reporting on women and the things they make, creative young people, those fighting to protect the vulnerable, and those working to ensure more diverse faces have the right to be heckled doing standup comedy in local clubs. Yes: COVID-19, too…but it’s just one part of life. Midweek understands that.
