Poetic Origins

Jamaal Jackson Rogers is a local spoken word artist and arts educator. A poetry unit in his English as Second Language class led him into writing his own poem. Now, he earned the title of Ottawa’s Poet Laureate and co-owns an arts venue which prioritizes the voices of marginalized communities.
