Jewellery can be made out of lots of things: beads, glass, seashells. Ottawa’s own Karine
Halpenny makes jewellery out of armour: more specifically chainmaille. She tells us
how the art of making chainmaille jewellery has calmed her, comforted her and helped
her come out of her shell.
Karine shares her workshop with her two guinea pigs, Chester and
Stanley. They serve as her motivators and cheerleaders, but since they cannot attend her
events she uses a replica to model Chester’s chainmaille outfit.
Halpenny makes urban and industrial designs with a pop of colour.
Making jewellery helped her come out of her shell and now she visits shows and events
in Ottawa where she befriends many new people within the creator community.
