Jacqui Du Toit is a storyteller from South Africa. She came to Canada as part of a South African travelling circus. After the circus went bankrupt, Du Toit chose to stay in Ottawa. In this video, Jacqui shares her story with us.

Why We March

Early this year, the city of Ottawa came together in solidarity to march for the rights of all minorities for the second time. The Women’s March Ottawa drew in thousands of people, even more than the previous year. Yet, behind this huge movement is the four women organizers. This is the story of how they came together, creating a sisterhood and an experience that has changed their lives.

Lux: The Band

A group of four female Carleton University music students joined forces this year to form an all-girl rock band called LUX. Each of the women have always dreamt of making music and realized their voices were stronger together. Recently, LUX played their biggest show yet and they hope their band’s journey is just beginning.

Find your place within The Space

In just one year, the Space has become a popular creative learning hub for persons with intellectual and learning disabilities. Program leaders guide members through a variety of workshops aimed at helping them exercise their creativity and sense of independence.

Rough Paws, Soft Touch

Everyone knows that life can be RUFF sometimes. For Seryna Egidio, it all started when a stranger showed up on her front step with a dog for sale. Bear the border collie mix was fat, dirty and terrified of everything. But mostly, he was in need of some love. After one YEAR of intense trust-building and rehabilitation, Bear is now well-adjusted and happy. Egidio saw how interacting with people affected her dog—and how he helped them too. Anxiety… depression… stress… even illness are known to be muted when therapy animals are . Since then, Bear and Seryna have registered as an Ontario Therapy Dog team.

Love Blooms

From the heat of Mexico to the frigid cold of Canada, a local greenhouse farmer came a log way just to grow vegetables. But the harvest isn’t the only thing that attracted her to the outskirts of Ottawa. She came so love would grow.
